The hotel group with the most boutique hotels in the Bay Area is Joie De Vivire Hospitality.

You will have no trouble finding a room in your range in thier collection.

They also have a cool free featurewhere they match you with a friendly local person who shares your interest to get you oriented in the city and takes you on a tour of an area of the city. This is called the Golden Gate Greeter program and is modeled after other greeter programs in Chicago and New York.

your best bet...go to hotwire.com

you can get amazing deals there...just click on hotels and then do a search for San Francisco and choose what part of the city you want to stay in. You wont get to see the name of the hotel until you book your stay, but you can read a description...we've used Hotwire several time's fro Bay Area trips and have never been disappointed.
Hi there

Try the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway, the hotel is in a great location within close proximity to major attractions. The famous Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 and Union Square shopping are nearby. The Golden Gate Bridge and tranquil Marin County are a short drive away. Rates are around $119 per night.
Try the Kimptonhotels.com group - they have several hotels in San Francisco. The rack rate is more like $200-$250, but they have special deals all the time called ';hot dates'; or something like that.
