Boutique Hotel - White Swan Inn in San Francisco - Romantic ? Safe ?

I'm preparing to book a King Deluxe room with fireplace at the White Swan Inn in San Francisco. It's located on Bush street between Taylor %26amp; Mason. Is this a good area? Does anyone know anything about the hotel? I really like the room and the reservations for September are going fast. It's for our HONEYMOON, so I want it to be romantic!! I'd love some feedback. Any suggestions that I can ask the hotel staff to do to make the night special (champagne, etc) ! Thanks :)Boutique Hotel - White Swan Inn in San Francisco - Romantic ? Safe ?
You will be in an old downtown SF residential/commercial neighborhood and it is about as safe as you can expect in a large city.

It's close to the theater district and not too far from the Tenderloin where there are street people. Generally those people won't bother you even if you pass them on the sidewalk -- they might be passed-out. Seriously, I used to work in the neighborhood and had no trouble. But then again, I wasn't walking around that area at night either.

The Tenderloin is ROUGHLY bordered by Mason, Market St, Van Ness Ave, Geary St. You'll notice some nice hotels are in the area I've described. If you walk around the Union Square area you should be OK. The downtown merchants have done everything they can to make sure it is safe for their visitors and customers. Also, don't walk through the Stockton tunnel to get to %26amp; from Chinatown. It's noisy and dirty. Instead, go over to Grant Ave. and walk into Chinatown that way during the day.

There is a lot of history there. Dashiell Hammett who wrote the Maltese Falcon once lived in an apartment building in the neighborhood near your hotel.

You seem to have a spirit of adventure. You will enjoy your stay in SF -- and the White Swan Inn.

I used to live on Sacramento Street (between Mason and Taylor). The White Swan is on the edge of Nob Hill, not far from Union Square. Bush is a one way street that takes morning traffic into the Financial District, so it can be congested. You're a short cab ride from everything in the downtown area, though.

One very San Francisco thing that you might enjoy is a show called ';Beach Blanket Babylon'; in North Beach. Nothing else like it...anywhere. Have fun.

P.S. You should be fine at the White Swan, but avoid the White Swallow. It's a gay bar...not that there's anything wrong with that.
They have a champagne package at the Swan so book it with reservations.

Be sure to tip well. I know it is your honeymoon but Hotel staff work on cash motivation. Have some 10's and 20's handy to make things run extra smooth.
I've stayed at the White Swan. It is romantic, a great place to spend your honeymoon.

Bush Street is quite safe, you will be on Nob Hill and close to Union Square, Chinatown and with easy public transportation options.

Enjoy!
